Greens Alternative Budget 2016: Investment in Renewables Deliver Large Scale Returns

Rosalie Woodruff MP to move—

That the House:—

(1)           Notes the Greens’ Alternative Budget has the vision to secure a renewable energy supply for Tasmania that also delivers large scale returns to the State.

(2)           Understands a Green Government would fund:—

(a)           a smarter network to enable increased renewable generation while reducing operating costs and avoiding unnecessary capital expenditure on our network;

(b)           a fair Feed-in-Tariff which would also boost the solar industry, lift jobs, improve energy security, and create clean and healthy communities;

(c)           interest free loans for the installation of solar panels for low income households;

(d)           community solar farms so all Tasmanians can invest in solar; and

(e)           energy efficiency upgrades to low income households, community groups and small businesses.

(3)           Recognises a Green Government would embrace the renewables boom with a plan to deliver 1,305 MW of new large scale renewables, producing enough clean electricity to power 778,998 homes.

(4)           Understands that by moving now, Tasmania stands to earn over $100 million in revenue over this budget cycle, climbing to nearly $500M by 2022/23 from the sale of Large-scale renewable energy certificates generated by these new projects.

(5)           Acknowledges that Tasmania has benefited to the tune of millions of dollars from the sale of Large-scale Generation Certificates (LGCs) in the past at the expense of Hydro’s water storages and that the Greens plan is to generate those profits from new renewables while using the additional clean electricity to secure our States power supply in times of low rainfall.

(6)           Calls on the Liberal and Labour parties to support sensible Greens policy that will secure a renewable energy supply for Tasmania while delivering large scale returns.
