Liberals Need to Honour Their Suicide Prevention Election Commitment
Parliamentary Activity - Tuesday, 14 June 2016
Tuesday 14 June 2016
Rosalie Woodruff to move—
That the House:—
(1) Notes that:—
(a) as part of an election commitment the Liberal Government allocated $3 million to suicide prevention strategies in the 2014/15 Budget, with $1 million to be spent each year from 2014/15 to 2016/17;
(b) in the first year of the program, 2014/15, only $339,000 of the allocated $1 million was spent, and the rest was rolled over;
(c) at the end of the second year of the program, 2015/16, only $406,000 of the rolled-over allocation of $1.434 million is projected to have been spent; and
(d) by the third year, 2016/17, $2.255 million of the $3 million remains to be spent, and $640,000 of it is being pushed to a fourth year, 2017/18.
(2) Calls on the Government:—
(a) to explain whether the allocated money has been rolled-over due to a lack of public servants in the Department to project manage the money; and
(b) to stand by their election commitment to Tasmanians and fund their suicide prevention commitments as they said they would.
