In Parliament

  • Dr WOODRUFF (Franklin) - Madam Speaker, on behalf of the Greens I provide our contribution to this bill. It is something that the Greens have spent a lot of time thinking about. We have spent a lot of time talking to stakeholders. We have spent a lot of time being briefed by the police and people who have flown from interstate to provide us with information about the context for this bill.

  • Dr WOODRUFF (Franklin) - Mr Deputy Speaker. I thank the Minister for Planning for reminding us and recording in Hansard that indeed the Greens have concerns with some corrupted planning processes that have been used around the Cambria Green development.

  • Dr WOODRUFF (Franklin) - Madam Speaker, I rise tonight to celebrate the power of the community of people in Tasmania who have risen up from the east coast but much more broadly than there to declare their love for the place they live in and their determination to resist this massive development being proposed for the east coast which we know from what the developers have announced will completely change not only the experience of living on the east coast for all the people who live there and those who go there on holid

  • Dr WOODRUFF (Franklin) - Mr Deputy Speaker, we need to put this conversation in context. The context was Tony Abbott as prime minister who signed up on behalf of the Australian people and the Australian nation to the Paris Agreement.

  • Dr WOODRUFF (Franklin) - Mr Deputy Speaker, I had so many things in my mind preparing to speak to this matter of public importance, but they were all washed away by the minister's later comment that he just made.  He said, 'We can't reduce smoking rates by introducing a rule for Tasmanians.'  What a shock?  What a shame that this person holds the responsibility of the ministry for health, because that is a fundamental rewriting of the global success of Australia's approach to reducing smoking rates.  It is a fundamenta

  • Dr WOODRUFF (Franklin) - Mr Deputy Speaker, on the matter of honesty in government, we can start with November 2016, when the Joint Standing Committee on Integrity recommended that this parliament adopt a single code of conduct for members of parliament. The joint standing committee has since that time been relentlessly promoting the importance of this code of conduct to all members of parliament. This Premier has relentlessly dodged and weaved at every opportunity put in front of him to bring that into parliament.

  • Dr WOODRUFF (Franklin) - Mr Deputy Speaker, I am honoured to speak to the Greens' vision for Tasmania and our alternative budget, which the Leader of the Tasmanian Greens, Cassy O'Connor, presented earlier today. I will further add to the details of our alternative budget by focusing on the portfolio areas I have responsibility for.
