Valuing marine and coastal ecosystem services

Elisavet is an early career researcher working in Resource Economics, with a background in Biology and Ecology. She is presenting a choice experiment conducted in south-eastern Tasmania which investigated the value of marine and coastal ecosystem services in and around the Derwent estuary and Storm Bay. The selection of ecosystem services to be valued in the choice experiment was informed by previous qualitative work in the area, as well as an application of participatory GIS focussing on recreational activities and the perception of ecosystem services. The aim of her research is to identify the values held by society, and investigate how they trade off against one another in order to inform decision-making.
