Liberal plan to destroy wilderness gathers pace

The Tasmanian Greens today ridiculed the Liberals’ proposal to open up National Parks and World Heritage Areas to unrestrained development.

Greens Leader Nick McKim MP said that the Liberals would destroy the values and wilderness that generate thousands of jobs in Tasmania's tourist sector.

Minister O'Byrne must not award Regent Square tender until legal situation is resolved

The Tasmanian Greens today called on Minister O’Byrne to ensure that no tender is awarded for the construction of the Regent square Hub until such time as the section 64 application, currently before the RMPAT tribunal is dealt with.

Greens Member for Bass Kim Booth MP said that section 64 application has highlighted the fact that the controversial and unpopular proposed Hub on Regent Square is actually sited on the car park which was required as part of the approval of the extensions to the Memorial Hall six years ago, and which the Council has spent a fortune on.

Greens pledge full fibre optic rollout 

The Tasmanian Greens announced a plan for the State Government to complete the full rollout of the National Broadband Network to every single Tasmanian home and business.   Announcing the plan today, Greens Leader Nick McKim MP said Tasmania should aim to complete the NBN rollout within five years and do it more efficiently and more cheaply than the stalled Federal Government effort.
