The damage to the Basslink cable is a timely reminder that Tasmanians are still vulnerable to cuts to our electricity supply.

The best way to make our electricity supply secure is to increase the production of renewable energy on the island.

We have the potential to be at least 100% renewable if governments are willing to invest.

Rather than being used to increase our dependence on dirty coal-fired power, we should be using Basslink to export clean energy to the mainland.

It would be a fantastic Christmas present for all Tasmanians if the government announced it will increase support for clean, renewable energy generation.
