kunanyi/Mt Wellington should be protected for its outstanding natural and cultural values, not carved up by the Liberals to suit a single developer pushing a single, divisive project.
The Liberals' plan to use their Parliamentary majority to acquire land from Council, and do a deal with the developer over a priceless public asset is disgraceful.
Unfortunately, few Tasmanians will be surprised that the Liberals are prepared to oil the wheels for the proposed cable car. At every turn, through the secretive Office of the Coordinator General, special deals are being done behind closed doors to suit developers.
Many Hobart residents are passionately opposed to a cable car on wild kunanyi, but the Liberals only have an ear to developers.
However Mr Groom likes to dress it up, making new law to enable the cable car in the face of Council and community opposition is an abuse of power and of process. This deal looks and smells like cronyism, facilitated through the secretive Office of the Coordinator General.
When the Premier met with community groups in 2012, along with Matthew Groom and Elise Archer, he told them the government would consider providing infrastructure for any cable car.
What part of this questionable project won't be propped up by the Liberals?
The Liberals have apparently never seen a protected area or wilderness they didn't want to exploit in some way or gift exclusive access to within the development fraternity.
They know the price of everything and the value of nothing.
