With a 50% test positivity rate and 2223 recorded cases today, Tasmanians are increasingly suffering as a result of the Gutwein Government’s hands-off approach to Omicron.

Not only is it failing to take any meaningful action to control the spread of disease in the community, the Premier and Health Minister have maintained the lie that Omicron is ‘mild’.

This is dangerous, irresponsible language.

Their claim has been exposed as false by the World Health Organisation which has issued an urgent warning that Omicron is deadly.

The WHO is clear, Omicron is driving up hospitalisations, ICU admissions and deaths globally, placing health systems at risk of collapse.

Peter Gutwein and Jeremy Rockliff should apologise for so egregiously misleading the Tasmanian people.

From encouraging super spreader events like Party in the Apocalypse to telling Tasmanians Omicron is ‘mild’, the level of complacency demonstrated by the Gutwein Government during this public health crisis is staggering.
