The government is finally releasing information about water quality problems in Macquarie Harbour, with the publication of the Cawthron review.
We know that current monitoring was enough to trigger alarms within the aquaculture industry. The problem has been the cover up of reasons behind the poor water quality.
A departmental discussion paper released under Right to Information deleted all information about stocking density and its connection to poor water quality and disease.
The government must come clean on what is causing the low dissolved oxygen levels in Macquarie Harbour. If it’s high stocking levels then expansion plans must be put on hold.
