Cassy O'Connor MP | Greens Leader
The Greens acknowledge and respect the Commission of Inquiry’s request to extend their reporting deadline.
The Commission received a large number of submissions and heard the evidence of so many witnesses, from across the State Service.
We hope there has been no action, or inaction, on the part of the Rockliff Government behind this delay in the reporting date.
It’s clear there is a lot to consider in making recommendations that enable stronger protection of children and young people from abuse and neglect, enabled by official cover ups and failures to act.
We recognise and regret that this decision may cause some anxiety and unease for some victim survivors.
We hope that any immediate additional funding required for the Commission is being provided without question. The safety of children should never have a price tag.
We also trust the Premier will ensure that while the Commission’s report and recommendations will now be handed down after the State Budget, that a large enough pool of funds will be provided to enact changes immediately. This is work that cannot be delayed.
