Who does Dean Winter think he is?

Apparently embarrassed about Labor’s vote to attack thousands of public services employees, Mr Winter has launched a bizarre tirade against the Greens as a distraction.

The motion Mr Winter is so worked up about was an insult to all those who work in the public service. These are people who do essential work on issues affecting the lives of everyday Tasmanians - like housing, health, child safety, education, emergency services, and much more.

Hasn’t Dean Winter learnt anything from his past attack on unions? Based on the ongoing deep division in the Labor Party, clearly many in the union movement haven’t forgotten.

The Greens are strong supporters of the public service and understand its critical role. Unfortunately, it seems Labor don’t agree.

While Labor is trying to concoct a ludicrous conspiracy theory about the Greens, it’s Labor who are backing the Liberals on critical issues. In just the last fortnight Labor have backed the Liberals on the stadium, weak political donations laws, and on a vile political move to undermine the independence of the judicial system.

Labor’s suggestion that somehow this vote was a refusal to acknowledge the cost-of-living challenges facing so many Tasmanians is ridiculous. Mr Winter is conveniently forgetting he and his Labor colleagues have teamed up with the Liberals to vote down actual legislation the Greens have put forward to tackle the cost of living – like putting an end to unreasonable rent increases, and making public transport free.

Rather than trying to score cheap political points, maybe Labor should get on board with delivering real outcomes for the people of Tasmania.
