The Liberals celebrated their 250th self-congratulatory Dorothy Dix in Question Time today.

This milestone should not have been celebrated, but it's been made very clear by the Liberals that they want their parliament to be one of 'good news', not openness and transparency.

Question Time is an important opportunity for opposition parties to scrutinise the government, but every sitting day we see one third of Question Time dedicated to back slapping and self promotion.

These 250 and counting DDs represent an abuse of power that treats Parliament with contempt, an opportunity to pump out propaganda.

It is becoming very clear that the Liberals' 'brighter future' is one where they feel free to sell public assets in secretive processes and believe they should not be held to account in Question Time.

We've endured 250 Dorothy Dixers in just over 18 month and we're likely to see at least another 250 before the Liberals' term is up.

This is not good for democracy. It's not good for Tasmania.

The Victorian Parliament has moved to abolish Dorothy Dixers in Question Time. It is well and truly time for Tasmania to do the same.
