Emissions Reduction Target Woefully Inadequate

The Abbott Liberals have once more revealed they are a bunch of climate Luddites with their woeful 26% emissions reduction target by 2030.

Our grandchildren will not thank the Liberals for saying they will do so little, so late, and in the face of overwhelming scientific evidence.

Basing a far-off reduction target on 2005 emissions levels is an unscientific farce. The Kyoto baseline year is 1990.

Australia had a unique opportunity to go to the Paris climate talks and lead by example, but all Prime Minister Abbott has delivered is yet another testament to his coal addiction.

This is the Australian Prime Minister who believes coal is good for humanity.  He cannot be taken seriously on climate, other than the serious threat his party's latest policy poses to future generations.

Premier Will Hodgman's Canberra colleagues shafted future generations and the Tasmanian economy by abolishing the price on carbon last year.

As the nation's renewable energy powerhouse, Tasmania lost about $70 million a year in Hydro revenue as a result.

Now Liberals at a State and Federal want to burn Tasmania's forests to generate power instead of protecting and managing them for their immense carbon sequestration value.

The Liberals pay little more than lip service to action on global warming.
