Excessive Pay Rise Should Go to Unfunded Organisations

The Legislative Council delivered the Hodgman Government everything they hoped in defeating the government's sham disallowance Motion today. The Premier's plan to have his cake and eat it too on MPs pay is going perfectly to plan.

It was no surprise that the conservative and independent Upper House knocked off the government's Motion. Because of the way the Premier engineered the legislation which led to the Tasmanian Industrial Commission's 10.5% pay rise determination, the money was always likely to flow through.

The Greens will be writing to the Clerk of the House of Assembly to direct the excessive payrise to charitable and non-government organisations.

We will be donating the excessive pay rise to organisations that are feeling the pressure of the Hodgman Liberal Government. There are many community, environmental and animal welfare organisations who aren't seeing the "brighter future" Premier Hodgman promised and they need all the help they can get.

The old parties might be happy to hand the cash back to Treasurer Gutwein, but the Greens have seen his handiwork and we're not that impressed.

We want to know that organisations that are defending our wild places, looking after our vulnerable and voiceless will get something from the Liberal Government.

The Greens will donate the excessive funds as follows:

Cassy O’Connor MP

Refugee Legal Service Tasmania

Produce to the People Tasmania

Andrea Dawkins MP

Bonorong Wildlife Sanctuary

Brightside Farm Sanctuary

Rosalie Woodruff MP

Environmental Defenders Office

Tasmanian Conservation Trust
