Federal Hotels continues to bloat its ill-gotten profits leeching off some of Tasmania’s poorest communities.
The Federal Group’s after-tax profit of $17M is primarily drawn from around 3,500 poker machines deliberately placed in the most economically disadvantaged communities.
The Farrell family, living very comfortably in their Sydney mansions, took home $12.5M in dividends – money directly from Tasmanians struggling to put food on their tables.
The Farrells have been fattening themselves at Tasmania’s expense for the best part of fifty years, enabled and encouraged by both the Liberals and Labor in government.
After taking hundreds of millions in profits, the Farrells are now begging for a tax break. Their self interest and sense of entitlement to more public largesse is quite breathtaking in its audacity.
The only thing more galling than Federal Hotels’ parasitic business model and their cosy relationship with the Liberals is the backflip by the Labor Party on pokies.
Both Labor and the Liberals are architects of, and complicit in, entrenching the disadvantage within communities until 2043.
The Greens will continue to campaign for a Tasmania where communities are free from the toxic, parasitic influence of electronic gaming machines.
