The Federal Budget handed down last night completely fails to deliver the crucial years 5 and 6 of Gonski for Tasmanian schools. Without targeted funding, our students aren't going to get the support they need to improve their educational attainment.

Tasmanian students need more resources, not less. Governments need to be giving our children as much help as they can to succeed.

The hold on deregulation of universities is a good start, but the government's plan needs to be taken off the table completely. Tertiary students, academics and staff need certainty in what has become a destabilised industry.

The $1.4B in funding cuts to universities, which accompanied previous plan to deregulate, is still being pushed through.

The VET fee fiasco is a deregulation warning to the Turnbull Government. It's a clear example of how allowing the removal of oversight can be a educational and administrative disaster.

The Turnbull Government has seriously let down Tasmanian students. We are among those on the bottom of the education ladder and this Budget does nothing to help us.
