Last night’s Federal Budget has failed Tasmania’s health system by locking in savage funding cuts which will compromise the success of much needed structural reforms.
"While we welcome the funding provided for clinical redesign and elective surgeries, the Federal Budget as it stands will leave the Tasmanian health system with gaping holes that place the state government’s reform agenda at risk," Greens Health spokesperson Cassy O'Connor MP said.
"The Abbott Government has done nothing to remedy last year's $1.8 billion cut to Tasmania’s health system out to 2024 or reverse the axing of the National Partnership Agreements on Improving Public Hospital Performance and on Preventative Health.”
"Service delivery in our public health system continues to be seriously impacted by horror budgets at both state and federal level, and there are no signs of a reprieve.”
“The question has to be asked: how can Premier Will Hodgman welcome a budget that leaves sick Tasmanians so high and dry?"
