The Fair Work dispute between Cricket Australia and an employee has again brought the Tasmanian abortion access crisis to national attention.

The Liberal government needs come clean about their involvement in the Angela Williamson saga. The Premier needs to release all correspondence between his Ministers, or their offices, and Cricket Australia regarding Ms Williamson.

Minister Ferguson’s evasive answers to serious allegations of ministerial involvement in the sacking of a private sector employee are not convincing.

His apparent attempt to cover up the matter as a “private” issue ignores the reality that women expect to be able to discuss issues regarding their own bodies without fear of losing their job.

Not only has the Minister been responsible for Ms Williamson’s traumatic experience by denying her access to termination services, he’s now alleged to have attempted to squash her career for daring to speak out about the policy that harmed her.

Until Minister Ferguson provides a guarantee that he was not involved, directly or indirectly in this matter, that further strengthens the case his known anti-abortion views have led him to allow Tasmania’s crisis in termination services to continue.
