Fragrance Group Skyscrapers On the Nose

The Fragrance Group's aggressive and obtrusive plans for Hobart have been dealt a near fatal blow.

Once the 'establishment' in the form of Simon Current and Greg Farrell are prepared to condemn a development, it's surely as good as finished.

The Greens rarely agree with Current or Farrell, but on this issue they are absolutely in tune with the prevailing public view.

The two skyscrapers planned for our city are grotesque and an insult to the character of Hobart.

The designs look like they've been pulled out of a pro forma skyscraper guide for lazy architects.  There is nothing beautiful or inspiring about them.

Given how little care or sensitivity has been shown by the developers with the two planned skyscrapers we know about, there is reason to be concerned about the Fragrance Group's intentions for the Conservatorium site on Sandy Bay Road.

Developers need to understand Tasmania isn't like everywhere else, and that's at the heart of our appeal for locals and visitors.

If the Fragrance Group or any other big developer wants to develop here, they need to understand and respect what it is that makes Tasmania unique in the world.

The thought of Simon Current blockading the bulldozers is quite extraordinary.

Let's hope it doesn't come to that and wisdom prevails for our beautiful city.
