Rosalie Woodruff MP | Greens Justice spokesperson
The government is actively undermining the Integrity Commission. They've cut their funding and failed to act on any of the recommendations from the three year review, and now they're only appointing an Acting CEO.
A person acting as CEO would have no mandate to continue the Commission's strong and probing work.
Only appointing an Acting CEO to the Integrity Commission will neuter the public sector watchdog.
The Attorney General has also only committed to maintain the Commission's investigative powers until its review early next year.
Ms Merryfull's resignation follows directly after that of former Chief Commissioner Murray Kellam, who left citing major government obstacles and a lack of resourcing and support.
Tasmania needs the independence and investigative powers of the Integrity Commission and it should be supported by our government.
