Cassy O'Connor MP | Greens Leader

We are proud to announce Pat Caruana as the Greens candidate for the Legislative Council seat of Huon.

Pat is an outstanding candidate who will be the climate champion the Upper House needs.

In a time of climate emergency, a Green voice in the Legislative Council is critical. As a young father, Pat understands the urgent need for future-focused policy and law.

Tasmania hasn’t yet had a Green in the Upper House, but the need now is greater than ever. The Greens are a truly grassroots party, and Pat will lead a people-powered campaign based on dedication and passion.

With an exceptional candidate like Pat representing us, we are confident we can win this seat.

Huon is home to important carbon-rich forests, such as those on Bruny Island and in the south. We need Pat in the Legislative Council to help us protect this critical carbon bank in the fight against the Liberals' destructive, climate-denying logging expansion.

Rosalie Woodruff MP | Greens Member for Franklin

People in the Huon Valley and surrounds experienced firsthand the impact of the warming climate with last summer’s bushfires. The reality of the climate emergency was keenly felt by those people who had their homes threatened and who breathed heavy smoke for weeks.

People who live in Blackmans Bay, Tinderbox, Bruny, the Channel and Huon Valley deserve a local member who is committed, diligent, and listening to their concerns. They deserve an Upper House member who is thinking about the future for them and their children, and that’s what they’ll get with Pat Caruana.

Pat has a long-standing commitment to environmental sustainability and social justice. He understands the challenges faced by locals who are struggling with unemployment and access to health services, as well as the need to preserve what is special about southern Tasmania.

The future of the Huon, Channel, Bruny and Kingborough lies in its vibrant community and natural values. The people who are lucky enough to call this place home deserve a Legislative Councillor who will defend it from old, destructive industries and help it flourish. You could find no better person than Pat to do just that.
