Cassy O'Connor MP | Greens' Leader
The Tasmanian Greens pay tribute to outgoing Anti-Discrimination Commissioner, Robin Banks, and wish her the very best for the future. During her time in the role, Robin gave a voice to the disempowered and a listening ear to the unheard.
As Anti-Discrimination Commissioner, Robin Banks was tenacious, deeply empathetic, clear and direct, and highly professional. She took on the establishment and those in power where necessary, with great determination and grace.
Tasmanians from all walks of life have taken heart and felt stronger because Robin Banks has been in their corner.
In these disturbing times where hate speech, racism and sexism are being legitimised on the world stage, and where attempts are being made to weaken legal protections here and in Canberra, we need champions like Robin Banks.
There are many Tasmanians, the beneficiaries of Robin’s strength and wisdom, who will be very sad to see her go, but may take comfort in the knowledge that she will continue to be a voice for justice, fairness and equality for all Tasmanians.
