Cassy O’Connor MP | Greens’ Leader
Tasmania’s growing diversity of communities will be strengthened through increased multicultural grants funding and investment in anti-racism programs in Tasmanian schools.
The Greens recognise the enormous contribution former migrants and humanitarian entrants make to the Tasmanian economy and community life.
To build greater capacity in both established and emerging cultural communities, the Greens will increase recurrent funding to the Multicultural Council of Tasmania and substantially increase the Multicultural Grants round by an extra $200 000 per annum.
We also recognise that discrimination and racism still persist within the community and that targeted investment is required to ensure Tasmanians from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds feel welcome and included, as they go about their lives.
The Greens are committed to funding proven and effective anti-racism programs in Tasmania’s schools. We will allocate $100 000 a year to a partnership between TasTAFE and a Fairer World to extend the highly successful Students Against Racism program.
We believe this investment will change hearts and minds, and move us closer towards the reality of a truly inclusive Tasmania for all who call this island home.
