The Greens condemn the attack on the Sumac Forest protest camp in takayna/Tarkine. The kind of violence and intimidation displayed overnight is unacceptable.

The Sumac blockade is a peaceful protest on public land that has been taking place since September 2018.

These community protesters are exercising their democratic right to bravely defend the takayna/Tarkine forest, and the threatened species it is home to.

There is no place for violence and intimidation in public protest, or at any time.

We call on Labor and Liberals to join in condemning the violence and theft that occurred in takayna/Tarkine last night.
