Cassy O'Connor MP | Greens Leader

On behalf of the Tasmanian Greens I want to say to the people of northern Tasmania and the Highlands, our hearts are with you.

At times like this, we are all just Tasmanians, very much connected in this time of crisis.

Our thoughts are with those missing, their family and friends, and our deepest condolences to the family and friends of those who have been lost in this catastrophic flood event.

We give our eternal thanks to emergency services’ personnel and urge those in the flood areas to be alert and stay safe.

The Greens also support any assistance the State and Federal governments can offer to those affected by the floods across the State.

After the devastating drought and fires of last Summer and now this extreme weather and flooding event caused in part by very warm waters on the East Coast, we also urge all levels of government to get on with mitigating and adapting to the effects of climate change.
