Cassy O'Connor MP | Greens Leader and Forests spokesperson
The Tasmanian Greens will seek a meeting with the Forest Stewardship Council to ensure they are fully informed about the Liberals' plan to allow loggers in to 357 000 hectares of high conservation value forests.
It is important the Council understands the cynical political nature of the Liberals' forestry agenda, the threat it poses to conservation values and likelihood of increased conflict.
This agenda is strongly opposed by a wide range of conservation groups who should be key stakeholders in the eyes of the FSC.
These beautiful, contentious forests should be placed in reserves as they were intended to be under the Tasmanian Forest Agreement.
We look forward to discussing our concerns with the Forest Stewardship Council.
