Forest defenders from the Bob Brown Foundations have this morning, once again, put their bodies on the line to protect Earth's precious Tasmanian carbon banks.

The Greens stand in solidarity with those brave climate and biodiversity champions.

The high altitude tall eucalypt forests of the Wentworth Hills are slow-growing and globally unique.

The Wentworth Hills forests are crucial in arresting global warming and biodiversity decline. Destroying these majestic forest treasures is the real crime.

The Liberals’ publicly subsidised logging operation consists of over 108 hectares of old growth Eucalyptus delagatensis woodland that also contains rare highland sphagnum and wet rainforest gullies - habitat to threatened and endangered species such as the Tasmanian Devil, Masked Owl and Wedge-tailed Eagle.

Once logged, this threatened species haven would take hundreds of years to regain it's ecological diversity, if ever.

The Gutwein Government’s loss-making destruction of such high conservation forests has to end.
