Cassy O’Connor MP | Greens Leader and Animal Welfare spokesperson
The momentum to end the cruelty of greyhound racing is gathering as the industry continues to lose its social license.
On behalf of Greens, I’m proud to sponsor GREAT, Let the Greyhounds Run Free and Coalition for the Protection of Greyhound’s petition to end public funding of greyhound racing.
The industry can’t survive without public money.
The greyhound racing industry is taxpayer funded by around $10 million a year. It’s State-subsidised animal cruelty.
Most Tasmanians would be horrified by the way dogs are treated in greyhound racing. The recent reported incident at the Mowbray vet is just the latest, public instance of cruelty.
The tragic death of Tah Bernard has distressed and angered Tasmanian dog owners. Hundreds of animal lovers have already signed the petition calling for the end of subsidies to the greyhound racing industry.
We urge all Tasmanians who love dogs and want them to have a happy life to sign the petition.
