Andrea Dawkins MP | Greens' Member for Bass

I was proud to table the Pulp Mill Assessment Repeal Bill 2017 in Parliament today on behalf of the Greens. If supported, this Bill would provide real closure for Northern Tasmanians.

The Tamar Valley community has been left hanging, uncertain about potential future developments while Gunns’ receivers had the site and associated permits for a new pulp mill up for sale.

Our bill will repeal the Pulp Mill Assessment Act and make it clear the door is closed on the divisive and dirty proposal going ahead under a new proponent.  It would remove any threat of the Tamar Valley pulp mill rising again.

The Greens’ bill will provide the closure the Tamar Valley and wider Tasmanian community deserve.  It will ensure the towns, vineyards, beaches and tourist attractions of the Tamar Valley are now protected from a divisive, dirty and destructive pulp mill development forever.

We hope both Labor and the Liberals will support our bill, so the people of the Tamar Valley can move on, and flourish, without fears of a potential pulp mill hanging over them.
