A quality public education system is crucial to ensure fairness, equity and opportunity for all students. Now more than ever, it is important to bring children and young people from diverse backgrounds together, supported by their parents and our excellent educators to prepare them for the huge challenges ahead.

On Public Education Day, the Greens thank all teachers and support staff in the public system for the dedicated, tireless work they do. Tasmania’s public schools have risen to the challenge of COVID-19 with diligence and empathy.

Public education is vital to the State’s long-term recovery from COVID-19, and for the greater health and fairness of our society. It fosters the leaders of tomorrow and a culture of inclusion.

Future Tasmanian leaders must be equipped with the tools they need to tackle the climate emergency, and a difficult century – and Tasmanian teachers are providing them. The role public educators play in this preparation is crucial, and will only become more so.
