Cassy O'Connor MP | Greens Leader
The Greens welcome the Public Accounts Committee’s announcement they will hold an Inquiry into the Liberal government’s use of the Treasurer’s Reserve to fund election commitments without the knowledge of Parliament.
Over the course of this year, we’ve interrogated the Liberals’ over their secretive, shonky election slush fund. We believe the Tasmanian people have a right to answers about how millions of dollars of public money have been spent out of the public purse without Parliament’s oversight.
Through Right to Information applications to Communities Tasmania, the Premier’s Office, and Treasury and through repeated questioning in Budget Estimates and in Parliament, we’ve worked to get to the bottom of the Local Community Facilities Fund.
The more information that’s been uncovered about the Liberals’ election cash splurge, the worse the picture becomes. Many more serious questions remain, and we hope this Inquiry will find some answers.
If the Liberals think they’re going to get away with their secrecy, dodginess, and contempt for Parliament and the Tasmanian people, they’ve got another thing coming
