Tasmanians have serious reservations about Hydro's self-assessment of the impact of cloud seeding activities on the severe June flooding. They won't be reassured by the Energy Minister Matthew Groom's comments in Parliament today.

Minister Groom ignored the community's suspicion of Hydro's self assessment and flatly refused to conduct an independent investigation.

People in flood affected communities, mayors, Upper House members and opposition parties have all called for an independent inquiry.

The June floods resulted in loss of life and they destroyed homes and farms, as well as roads and bridges.

The floods had a devastating impact on rural communities, and are estimated to have cost Tasmania about $180 million.

Cloud seeding is a regular practice, and Tasmanians need to know it's safe and being conducted appropriately. Minister Groom needs to do his duty and restore community confidence with an independent inquiry.
