Rosalie Woodruff MP | Greens Climate Change spokesperson
The Greens welcome the Liberals’ adoption of our policy to electrify the government vehicle fleet.
Transitioning the government fleet to emissions-neutral electric vehicles was proposed in the Greens’ 2016/17 Alternative Budget.
It seems our Alternative Budgets aren’t as kooky as Premier Gutwein claims.
Electrifying the government car fleet has been our policy for five years, and has been ready to adopt every Budget since. While it’s taken them more than half a decade, we’re glad the Liberals got there in the end.
We also welcome Premier Gutwein following the Greens’ lead, and reinstating the Climate Change Ministry. As the first Liberal Minister for Climate Change, Peter Gutwein should be doing everything in his power to protect future generations from the climate emergency.
Premier Gutwein should also acknowledge Tasmania’s near zero emissions are as a result of the Tasmanian Forest Agreement. Keeping carbon in the ground and ending deforestation is critical in a climate and biodiversity emergency.
We look forward to Peter Gutwein’s Liberals taking on more Greens’ policies to fight climate change. The best thing he could do would be to end native forest logging.
