An increasing number of Tasmanians are being left completely out in the cold by the Gutwein Government.

The latest Australian Institute of Health and Welfare research reveals less than half the homeless Tasmanians looking for shelter received it in the past year.

Every day an average of 36 people looking for help were turned away because there simply isn’t accommodation available.

Government inaction is forcing people on to the streets and in to parks - in to unsafe spaces.

This is the human cost of years of underfunding housing supply by the Liberal Government, while they let short stay accommodation get out of control in areas of housing crisis like Hobart.

This, during a pandemic. It’s shameful.

The Gutwein Government, and in particular Minister Jaensch - who talks a big game but hasn’t delivered - need to prioritise new homes for Tasmanians over roads and bridges
