Stimulating the local economy to buffer it from the COVID-19 crisis is important but the Gutwein Government needs to do much more to support low income people, those who live at society’s margins and small businesses - all of whom were largely left out of yesterday’s $420 million announcement.
The West Australian government has frozen all household fees and charges, including electricity, water, public transport fares and motor vehicle charges.
The WA government looked after everyday people first and provided immediate financial relief to households.
Premier Gutwein must do the same. The financial impact of this pandemic on Tasmanian households, on already vulnerable people living in the community, and small businesses will be devastating.
Stress levels in low income households and small businesses are extremely high. A statement of immediate financial relief from the Gutwein Government is urgently required.
