Local Government Minister, Peter Gutwein has passed the buck on our aging water and sewerage infrastructure to councils, and in the same breath told them they shouldn't raise rates to pay for it.
TasWater made it very clear Tasmania’s ailing water and sewerage infrastructure is everyone's problem. Instead of taking some responsibility, Minister Gutwein has handballed it to local councils.
The Liberals came to government with an amalgamation agenda for local government. Instead of being upfront, they're making life impossible for councils, and forcing the changes by stealth.
TasWater have made arrangements to address the critical water issues in the 24 towns with 'boil water' alerts, while the State Liberals have ignored the problems.
This government has made a big song and dance about their so-called "surplus". If things are as flush as they claim, Local Government Minister and Treasurer, Peter Gutwein, could tackle the State’s water and sewerage problems now.
The Liberals' failure to pitch in to fix Launceston's ailing water and sewerage problems is pathetic. Raw sewage flowing onto suburban streets is a serious public health issue, which lies at the feet of Treasurer, and local member, Peter Gutwein.
