Hospital patients and people in aged care are incredibly vulnerable to COVID-19. We must do everything we can to protect them from becoming infected.

The news that hospitals and aged care homes will be closed to visitors, except for limited reasons, will be difficult for many to hear - but is a critical public health measure.

We know this will come as sad news for hospital patients and aged care residents, as well as their families and friends, but it is needed. Today’s announcement will not only protect vulnerable patients and elderly residents, but health care workers.

Visiting or being visited by a person you love when you live in aged care or are in pain means a lot. We know carers and staff will do everything they can to provide opportunities for electronic connections.

This is a necessary restriction that no one wants in place, and we know the government will lift it when it is safe to do so.
