Rosalie Woodruff MP | Greens Energy spokesperson
The news Hydro Tasmania is unable to keep up with their maintenance schedule is an indictment on the Hodgman Government.
Our electricity infrastructure is under serious threat. This comes on top of summer's energy crisis, and will leave Tasmanians worrying once again about the security of their power.
The Hodgman Government came into office demanding an increase in dividends from Hydro, leaving them little to reinvest into maintenance and infrastructure. It is the Liberals who are risking our energy security.
Shareholder ministers would've been aware of the need to reinvest in infrastructure, and should never have set a 90% dividend policy.
The current dividend freeze is too late, and won't be enough to address Hydro's impending infrastructure disaster.
Energy Minister, Matthew Groom must stop talking about freak instances that led to our energy issues. We know from climate scientists and meteorologists that the recent summer is not an isolated weather event, but is indicative of Tasmania's climate future.
Minister Groom must explain how it is we got to this point. He also needs to tell the Tasmanian people what the government's plan is to ensure they're not left in the dark in the future.
