Safe drinking water is something people in developed countries should never have to question. The permanent 'boil water' alert for Scamander should prompt immediate action from the State Government.

It's beyond belief locals and visitors to the popular tourist town will have to boil water for drinking, and sponge bath young children, for the foreseeable future, because the risk of contamination is so high.

It's unacceptable for the people in the small East Coast township, and risks cutting their tourist industry off at the knees.

The Hodgman Government are supposedly big supporters of East Coast tourism, and were the ones to proclaim the 'Great Eastern Drive'.

It's one thing to put up signs and announce a road that already exists, it's quite another to leave a popular tourist town without safe drinking water.

I will be visiting Scamander this week to have a look at the treatment plant and to talk to residents about their concerns.

We hope Liberal MPs will take the time to visit Scamander and listen to residents and tourist operators who are feeling the pain of the 'all spin and no responsibility' Liberal Government.
