Liberal Party: Heads in the Sand on Global Warming

The Liberal Party's best and brightest were on display today at their State Council meeting, with the Huon Branch moving a motion to just keep on emitting carbon dioxide and cross our fingers for the best.

The Liberals showed us their true climate colours today at their State Council meeting, seriously debating whether global warming was reality or just Green propaganda.

Tragically, this is the Party that is currently governing our state and nation - our precious coastlines, our agricultural assets and who shoulder the responsibility of natural disaster relief. The Liberals remain a Party of climate deniers.

As soon as they got into office, the Hodgman Liberals axed the ministerial Climate portfolio and the Tasmanian Climate Action Council , and now we see why.  There is a strong and persistent streak of climate denialism in the Liberal Party at the most senior levels and the grassroots.

This incredibly backwards debate has taken place in Hobart just days after confirmation that this Summer's bushfire season is likely to one of very high risk in Tasmania.  Earlier, more intense and more frequent bushfire events were already a fact of life in Australia and California – just two examples - as a result of global warming.

This is the reality and it won’t change while the Liberals keep their heads wedged firmly in the sand.

Let's hope the Minister for Police and Emergency Management is listening to the experts and not the membership of his political party, or the Prime Minister who still believes coal is good for humanity.
