The Liberals' attempt to introduce a user-pays levy on Tasmanian courts was so unjust it has even been rejected by the conservative Legislative Council.
The Cost of Criminal Convictions Bill was so bad there was nothing the Legislative Council could salvage.
This shows how out of step the government is with the community. They didn’t listened to the legal profession, they didn’t listened to welfare groups, they didn’t even listen to one of our top judges.
The government has to stop playing politics with the justice system.
This bill would have set up a dangerous ‘user-pays’ precedent for our justice system. But justice isn’t a service, it's a democratic right.
