This is a fateful day for Tasmanian democracy.

As if it wasn’t chilling enough for the Liberals to seek to erode the democratic rights of all Tasmanians with their anti-peaceful protest law, today they gagged debate on the legislation itself.

Curtailing free speech during debate on unconstitutional laws that will themselves curtail free speech is not only ironic, it is shameful and deeply disturbing.

The Greens condemn the actions of the Hodgman Government and their Liberal-light ally, so-called independent MP, Madeleine Ogilvie, in the strongest possible terms.

Rosalie Woodruff MP | Greens Member for Franklin

he gag of this critical debate on democracy is a new low level, even in this era of corrupted conservative malpractices.

We will continue to resist the authoritarian agenda that the Hodgman Government is now pursuing in the interests of business with greater fervour than ever before.

The Liberals may think they can stifle dissent, but they will soon learn just how mistaken they are.

We will not be silenced.
