Cassy O'Connor MP | Greens Leader
Corrections Minister, Elise Archer, should show Westbury region residents the respect they deserve by attending tonight’s public meeting about the proposed new northern prison.
The way Minister Archer and the Liberals have handled the proposed Westbury prison has excluded the community from having any real input, despite the fact that a prison in a nearby nature reserve would have a significant direct impact on them.
We’ve consistently heard misleading statements from the government about this project, the proposed location, and works on the site. The community have had to rely on Right to Information requests to uncover the truth.
It’s fair to say residents of the Westbury region have been put through the wringer by the Liberals‘ botched handling of the northern prison project.
The Westbury community has unfairly borne the brunt of a government more worried about saving face than actually delivering good outcomes or looking after natural areas.
Given the significant impact this proposal would have on the Westbury area, and what residents of this region have already been through, attending a meeting is the least Minister Archer could do.
We strongly encourage the Minister to change her mind, and to have the spine to show up in Westbury this evening.
