Rosalie Woodruff MP | Greens Environment spokesperson
It's extraordinary that Minister Groom could not answer questions in parliament today about Tasmanian plans to protect the swift parrot.
Two weeks ago, a government spokesperson said an agreement between Forestry Tasmania and the environment department to protect the swift parrot was being developed, yet today the Minister knows nothing about it.
The swift parrot is one of Tasmania’s most endangered birds. The Liberals are content to supervise the destruction of the forests crucial for its survival, and are not participating in the federal government's recovery program.
If the department is developing a Public Authority Management Agreement to minimise habitat loss for the parrot then let’s hear the details.
Minister Groom needs to step up and take responsibility for our endangered wildlife, otherwise his legacy will be that he was the Minister who sat back and watched Tasmanian extinctions.
