The Energy Minister is like a sleepwalker stumbling in the dark, heading the state inevitably towards power rationing. Minister Groom has done too little too late to respond to the energy crisis.

If the Minister wants to avoid the risk of household power rationing, and minimise damage to Hydro assets and the environment, he should be making the easy energy reductions now.

Ray Mostogl feels Bell Bay has a moral obligation to reduce power use, so why doesn’t the Minister ask government departments and local councils to help reduce the load on the system, provide fact sheets and ‘handy tips’ for businesses and households, and support energy efficiency upgrades for public buildings?

Residential, government, local council and small business usage now make up nearly half Tasmania’s energy demand, but despite asking our major industries to make energy cuts and take a business risk the Minister is stubbornly resisting simple energy reductions elsewhere.
