Heads continue to roll at global consulting and accounting firm, Price Waterhouse Cooper over a tax avoidance scandal involving work it undertook for the Federal Government.

When we asked the Treasurer about PWC’s connection with the Tasmanian Government, he confirmed multiple agencies have contracts with PWC.

While the confirmation was immediate, no further information on PWC contracts with the Tasmanian Government was provided and the Treasurer made no commitment to bring extra detail – to answer the question – back to the House at the earliest opportunity, as is the convention.

Aah, the arrogance.

Thanks to the Australian Greens, we learned in Senate Estimates today that PWC are the auditor for the federal Treasury. Are they the Tasmanian Government’s Department of Treasury and Finance auditor also?

There are many more unanswered questions. What’s the value of the PWC work with the State Government? Have any confidentiality agreements been signed, and if so, between whom, and what measures have been put in place to ensure PWC isn’t trading confidential information with its other clients?

The Treasurer owes it to Tasmanians to be transparent, given the unfolding national PWC scandal. Michael Ferguson has the whole Treasury Department at his disposal, he has no excuse to delay.
