Cassy O’Connor MP | Greens Leader and Forests spokesperson
The arrival of Patriarch and Sons in Tasmania’s forests and on the banks of the Tamar is another sign the Hodgman Liberals don’t care where the money is coming from, as long as it comes.
The parent company of Patriarch and Sons is Shin Yang, a voracious, human rights abusing Sarawak logging company.
The forest ecocide being carried out in the Malaysian State of Sarawak in Borneo is well documented, as is Shin Yang’s role in the destruction.
If the Hodgman Liberals had any standards for good, brand-supporting private investment, Patriarch would not be welcome here.
As to Minister Courtney’s pledge on public native forest logging, it’s hard to take seriously.
This is the Minister who plans to open up 356 000 hectares of high conservation value TFA forests to logging from 1 July next year.
