Premier Failed at COAG

Premier Will Hodgman has effectively achieved nothing in the 2 days he’s just spent at COAG.

He’s come back without the $2.1 billion he went there to retrieve, and it also looks increasingly as though he has failed to ensure there is no increase in GST.

Many here are already at a significant financial disadvantage and struggling to meet everyday commitments.  The Premier has almost certainly failed them, and should feel embarrassed by his own performance.

No details have been released on the possible broadening of the Medicare system, and the Premier has missed an opportunity to lobby his federal counterparts for a much better solution to healthcare funding.

Pursuing multi-national pharmaceutical corporations to reign in tax evasion would go a long way toward funding the public health system, and would relieve the burden placed on the already working poor who make up a significant proportion of the population.

To increase the burden on Tasmanian household budgets with a GST hike is a slap in the face, and Tasmanians should feel absolutely let down by the failure of their Premier to look after their best interests.
