This week the Premier announced a $750 million mega stadium to be built within five years - while allocating $1.5 billion for housing to be built in ten years.

When we asked the Premier in Parliament today why he considered a stadium a more urgent need than homes in a housing crisis, he told us to be more aspirational.

Are the almost 4,500 Tasmanians languishing on the public housing waiting list just lacking aspiration? No, they’re lacking a secure, affordable home.

The Premier is so out of touch he thinks it’s justifiable to shell out the same amount each year on a fancy stadium with a retractable roof as on homes during a housing crisis. This says everything Tasmanians need to know about the Liberals’ priorities.

When the Greens questioned Mr Gutwein about putting a possible stadium, for a team that doesn’t yet exist, over homes for Tasmanians, he said he had hoped we had more vision.

We have a vision of no one being left out in the cold and of housing being a human right – that’s what a responsible government should put first.
