The Royal Automobile Club of Tasmania (RACT) is to be warmly commended for delivering a strategic vision to ensure Hobart is Australia’s most liveable city over the next three decades.

The RACT Greater Hobart Mobility Vision is the blueprint for Hobart’s future.  Now it requires investment from all levels of government.

With the Morrison Government’s ‘City Deal’ failing to deliver on public and active transport to ease congestion in Hobart, the Hodgman Government and Greater Hobart councils need to commit to RACT’s vision for new infrastructure, ferry services, park and ride, subsidized public transport incentives and more pedestrian and cycleways over the next five years.

To realise the vision over the next thirty years will require commitment from all levels of government as well as policy and funding consistency to prevent the ad hoc decision-making that has increased congestion pressures on the city.

The RACT vision also calls for the development of a population settlement strategy, as proposed by the Greens during the 2018 election campaign, to guide sustainable growth.

If we are to preserve our treasured way of life and grow as a State, we need to plan much better for the future.

The RACT is showing the way.  All that is needed now is a commitment from all sides of politics and at all levels of government to ensure a prosperous future for Hobart and its citizens.
